Saturday, July 14
Join Darryl on July 14 for a day long hike in Little River Canyon. Known as the “Grand Canyon” of the east, Little River Canyon is a spectacular gorge which is not only full of many wonderful plants, it is also home to Little River, one of the most pristine rivers in the U.S.
Cost for this hike is $25 per person or $30 per couple.

Darryl Patton is conducting a series of talks and workshops at First Methodist Church of Gadsden, Alabama as a part of “Gift to Gadsden.”
The classes are free and open to the public. Please call 1-256-543-8200 for more information. These classes will be conducted in the evening.

Saturday, July 28
Explore the hardwood coves of the Bankhead National Forest as we spend the day rambling through the canyons of this unique ecosystem. Edible and medicinal plants found in the cooler environment of the deep Hemlock canyons will be identified and their uses discussed.
Cost for this hike is $25 per person or $30 per couple.

Saturday, August 11
Located just east of Huntsville, Alabama, the Walls of Jericho hug the
AL/TN state line in an area so spectacular, the Forever Wild program
bought the land to preserve it. Spend the day hiking and observing the amazing rock walls, waterfall, and plants unique to this diverse area.
Cost for this hike is $25 per person or $30 per couple.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make fire with a bow drill, weave a primitive basket or learn the intricacies of the compass? Join us for an overview of many different survival skills which just might save your life one day. Held at our Appalachian Mountain Life, Inc., facilities located near Desoto State Park, this one day class will provide you with many different learning tools to carry with you on your next hike or camping trip.
Cost for this class is $50 per person or $75 per couple.

Saturday, August 25
Bring a lunch and prepare to spend an intense day learning how to make old-time salves, tinctures, liniments and a host of other traditional herbal medicines. This is a hands-on class, so be prepared to get down and dirty as we gather the plants and materials we will be preparing. All participants will go home with several useful herbal products they have helped to make. This class will not only be on making things, it will also contain in-depth discussions on the “How, What and Why” of each plant used. Held at our Appalachian Mountain Life, Inc., facilities located near Desoto State Park, this one day class will prepare the participant to begin their own experimentation in the traditional ways in which all our ancestors took care of their health needs.
Cost for this class is $75 per person or $60 per couple. Please bring a notebook or tape recorder and a container for your make and takes.
